➖ TVs 🥪 In the age of streaming, covid, we have become more likely to watch movies or videos on our televisions. Standard TV settings distort the picture and change it (most often for the worse). James Gunn, Martin Scorsese, Paul Thomas Anderson, and many other directors complained about these problems. So how do televisions distort the image? Traditionally, movies were shot at 24 frames per second to create the cinematic look that everyone is used to. However, televisions can display content at 50, 60, and even 120 frames per second. As a result, TV manufacturers use many post-processing effects, such as motion smoothing. Smoothing is accomplished through frame interpolation (TV adds missing frames on its own and makes the video smoother). Consequently, movies and videos become smooth, but because of this, there are distortions (especially in scenes with active motion). There are also problems with white balance, brightness, noise reduction, sharpening, and more... So what to do? The ideal is to buy a TV with Filmmaker Mode support. With Filmmaker Mode enabled, your TV will show you a good, distortion-free picture. If your TV doesn't support it, adjust the frame rate of the original video and turn down the brightness a bit.
