Any fire can produce a complex mixture of toxic gases and combustion products, a conventional house fire that's well established or ICE vehicle can expose people to carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, particulates and many other harmful substances, depending on what is burning. But a lithium-ion battery fire can introduce an additional chemical hazard, when lithium-ion batteries undergo thermal runaway and burn, they release a range of toxic gases, including hydrogen fluoride (HF).
