When a Soul descends, a baby is born
“Live a good life!” the Soul is sworn
But she lives a hard life, seventy years or more
Then the Soul ascends, battered and worn
Anxiety and stress, worry and fear
Challenges the Soul knew not - up there
Moments of pure bliss and joy were rare
A lifetime struggle was the reality of down here
So why, why, why put her through it all
When she was flying so high, why make her fall
Why take a Soul living in bliss
And give her a body, to go through all this
This question was tearfully asked by a man
Who understood the fall as a holy man can
And his answer gives life a tender, kind flavor:
“It is no fall at all, if you do even ONE person ONE favor”
Rabbi Eli Friedman
Chabad of Calabasas
