Coyote
Exactly 40 years ago, German artist, teacher, performance artist and art theorist Joseph Heinrich Beuys flew to New York and spent three days alone with a coyote in one of the galleries 🤯
The most remarkable thing is that Beuys never set foot (!) on American soil. He was completely wrapped in felt, and transported to and from the airport by ambulance.
As the artist explained:
I wanted to isolate myself, insulate myself, see nothing of America other than the coyote.
This performance was called I Like America and America Likes Me. It is considered one of the greatest works of this genre of art.
And yes, by the end of the third day, Beuys was able to hug the beast 🤗
