Mount Kailash, Tibet Mount Kailash is a sacred, pyramid-shaped mountain revered by several religions, yet fewer than a thousand people visit it each year. It is one of the few mountains in the world that cannot legally be climbed, and getting there is extremely difficult. A secret society is said to regard this place as vitally important, and rumor has it that when the ice finally melts, it will reveal THE EYE. In Hinduism, Lord Shiva—the destroyer of ignorance and illusion—resides inside the summit, meditating eternally with his wife Parvati. Nearby lie two lakes: Manasarovar (right) and Rakshastal (left). They represent the Sun and a half-moon, a highly significant pairing. Rakshastal means “Lake of the Demon,” while Manasarovar means “Mind.”
