CPIML, CPI, CPI(M) and other Left parties organised a protest in Dibrugarh, Assam on August 7, against the arrest and detention of indigenous land rights activist Pranab Doley under the draconian National Security Act (NSA). They condemned the use of the NSA to silence democratic voices and demanded Doley’s immediate and unconditional release.
Pranab Doley is being targeted by the Assam BJP government for standing with villagers fighting to protect their land and rights against a proposed luxury resort project on the edge of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Golaghat district. Despite being granted bail by the court, Doley was rearrested under the NSA.
