Burglary is climbing sharply across France just as many homes are left empty for the summer holidays. Interior Ministry figures show 27,648 residential break-ins were recorded in July, nearly 8% more than previously, prompting fresh warnings for residents to secure doors and windows, avoid obvious signs that a property is vacant and stay alert to increasingly sophisticated methods used by thieves. Authorities are also urging people to watch for suspicious activity and emerging scams that can help criminals identify potential targets. A summer getaway is much less relaxing when your empty home advertises the fact.
