A French passport still opens more doors than most, giving its holders visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 186 destinations worldwide. France ranks fourth in the 2026 Henley Passport Index, ahead of the UK with 184 destinations and the US with 180, while Singapore leads with 192. The contrast is striking: France sits just 99th out of 163 countries in the Global Peace Index, largely influenced by factors such as its military footprint and nuclear capabilities, despite scoring well on several measures of everyday safety. A powerful passport, it seems, does not necessarily come with a powerful peace ranking.
