Unwanted sales calls are about to become illegal in France. From August 11, companies will need a consumer’s prior consent before making marketing calls, with fines reaching €75,000 for individuals and €375,000 for companies per violation. The move could have an impact far beyond France, with up to 50,000 call-centre jobs reportedly at risk in Morocco. For millions of French residents, though, a quieter phone may be the most noticeable change.
