More than a decade after the Dieselgate scandal first shook the auto industry, Renault is now heading to a criminal court in France over alleged diesel emissions fraud. Prosecutors claim the company sold diesel vehicles between 2009 and 2017 with systems that passed official emissions tests while releasing higher levels of pollution in normal driving, allegations Renault strongly denies. The first court hearing is scheduled for April 2027, making Renault the second major automaker after Volkswagen to face a criminal trial in France over the scandal. Dieselgate may have begun in 2015, but its legal fallout is still far from over.
