Freedom Holding Corp. CEO Timur Turlov sat down with the Cyprus Mail on the sidelines of the 2026 FIDE Candidates Tournaments opening ceremony in Paphos to discuss the company's strategy, the role of technology in shaping modern finance and Cyprus's growing role in the tech and finance landscape. In a wide-ranging conversation, Turlov touched on everything from AI and digital infrastructure to the value of chess as a tool for strategic thinking. "In the world we live in today, the ability to think strategically and anticipate the next move is becoming essential," he said. "Chess trains exactly that skill, and it is something we need much more of now." During the interview, Timur introduced a brand-new initiative: "We are launching a media-first think tank called Tech Forward Cyprus," he said. "Its purpose is to promote the country's technological advancements globally." He highlighted a gap he wants to close: "Many great products are being developed in Cyprus, but people do not know about them. We want to tell that story to the world." The initiative, organised by Freedom24's communications desk, is designed to put Cyprus on the map for institutional investors, retail investors and policymakers alike. "Sometimes the story comes before the infrastructure," Turlov said. "If people understand the opportunity, capital will follow." 🌍 On the broader development of Freedom Holding Corp., Turlov reflected on how the company grew from a brokerage into a fully integrated digital ecosystem. "In our super app, you can open a bank account, access loans, buy insurance, trade securities, order food, book travel and even connect to home internet," he said. "It is a one-stop shop for almost everything." He expressed confidence in the potential for a similar approach in Cyprus: "I believe Cyprus has huge potential, but it requires strong cooperation, leadership and resources.
