🤖 The Second World Humanoid Robot Games Have Wrapped Up in Beijing
The standout result came from Tiangong Ultra, which ran the 100 meters in 8.64 seconds—0.94 s faster than the world record of Usain Bolt, "the fastest man in the world". For comparison, the best 100 m time at the first Games a year ago was 21.5 s.
Tiangong Ultra also broke human records in the 400 m and the 1500 m. The robot ran fully autonomously.
⏫ Many people noticed how much more capable the robots have become in just a year since the first Games. "This year, they are much better. They are like healthy newborn babies growing up," says one spectator.
That said, there were plenty of epic failures too. Robots slammed into crash mats at full speed (they still haven't learned to brake from that kind of momentum), collapsed under the weight of their loads, or lost coordination and fell over in ridiculous ways. Some left the arena on stretchers ⤴
🔄 But there will probably be fewer such mishaps every year—and more broken human records.
