Gold: target $4,500
Gold jumped sharply after an unexpectedly weak US jobs report for July. Prices hit multi‑week highs.
On August 7 the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported nonfarm payrolls fell by 23,000 in July; economists had expected a 80,000 gain.
Gold gained more than 7% for the week — the best weekly performance since January. Technically, the metal is aiming for $4,500 resistance ahead of an important inflation report.
Oil: firmer because of Ormuz
Oil is rising amid a major drop in shipping through Ormuz and the failure of talks between Iran and Oman, pushing Brent toward $90/bbl.
On Friday 15 cargo ships transited the strait, Saturday – 11, Sunday – 6, Monday – 7. That’s well below the recent 10‑day average of about 12 and tiny compared with roughly 98 cargo ships daily before the Middle East conflict.
Talks between Iran and Oman did not resolve the issue. Tehran demands sanctions relief, security guarantees and compensation.
The market reacted fast. Brent futures rose $4.17, or 4.99%, to $87.72 on Monday — the largest one‑day percentage jump since July 29. On Tuesday Brent climbed to $90/bbl as supply‑risk fears intensified.
Intel: $15B for AI
Intel will float shares for $15 billion (with an underwriter option of +$2.25 billion — up to $17.25 billion). The company announced a public underwritten offering of common stock — its largest equity raise in years.
Proceeds will fund capex and working capital to build AI infrastructure — physical AI, specialized solutions and packaging tech.
Nvidia: open Nemotron 4 family
Nvidia is developing a new family of open AI models called Nemotron 4. The largest version is reported to contain at least 1 trillion parameters.
Training is ongoing; the release is tentatively planned for late autumn.
The company positions open models as a tool for safety, innovation and accessibility; given rising costs and competition from Chinese models, this is a logical move.
