The United States removed Syria from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism after 47 years.
The 45‑day review period for the decision in Congress ended on August 22 without any reports of attempts to block it, which allowed Washington to revoke Syria’s status as a state sponsor of terrorism—a designation that was imposed in 1979.
