We're All Going to the World's Fair by Jane Schoenbrun Jane Schoenbrun’s debut feature film is a dark (yet not really horror) coming of age story which left me a bit bored. Cinematography and style beat the story. His/hers/theirs (?) second feature I Saw the TV Glow (reviewed above) is soo much better. And I’m patiently waiting for Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, quite excited about it.
Ai No Korîda by Nagisa Ōshima In the Realm of the Senses hasn’t aged a day since 1976, so punchy and edgy after half a century. Sharp, sick, and as perverted as when it went out, Ōshima’s totally non-cautionary BDSM tale is a gulp of fresh air, Venus in Furs of the 20th century, and … little words needed. Beautiful. Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die by Gore Verbinski Funny and very enjoyable AI scare apocalyptic sci-fi flick by Gore Verbinski, the mainstream film director who definitely went a different way here than in his several installments of the mega-Hollywood franchise Pirates of the Caribbean. Clumsy misfits who save the world from a giant centaur with a cat’s head that sprays confetti — how does that sound, eh?

Invasion U.S.A., Uzi gunfire-and-gore packed action flick, starring Chuck Norris and even co-written by him, is not an exception. Watching it 40 years after is pure joy. Plus, I still remember the air boat attack scene from my childhood days, eh.
Demonlover by Olivier Assayas A strange movie of changing themes and gears, of patchy non-linear narrative, of genre switching, of corporate realities confined to both an underground S&M torture den and to adult manga TV show, Demonlover (especially today) feels like Olivier Assayas is playing at David Lynch, Lost Highway, Mullholland Drive, all of that, and in a very peculiar manner. While critics praised Connie Nielsen’s acting, me, I utterly enjoyed Chloë Sevigny’s part. She’s the true alt-girl of the 00s.
