Defender of the Fatherland Day in Russia on February 23rd 🥁
It is a federal holiday and an official day off in Russia. The significance of the celebration is to honor the armed forces of Russia and all military people as well. Usually, the holiday is celebrated with parades and processions in honor of veterans.
It is common to think that February 23rd is a celebration only for men. Because in Russia it’s an old tradition to congratulate men on this day and women on March 8th - International women’s day.
Women often give small presents to their husbands, boyfriends and male co-workers because this day is considered "Men's Day".
But it is not completely the truth. The Defender of the Fatherland Day is for everybody who relates to the military in the country. There are a lot of women who celebrate this day on the same level as men do.
The day is a great reason to remember those who gave their lives to defend their country.
