Roßgärter Tor or Rossgarten Gate is the name of the most famous gate in city. The legend says that Baron Munchausen himself passed through the Rossgarten Gate of Konigsberg (Kaliningrad) once in the 18th century. On the way from Russia, where he finished his military service to home - Germany. He wanted to drink so much and asked for a beer, but did not find any little change to pay off. And said it would be on him to pay back one day.
Time passed but citizens haven’t forgotten about the promise. The debt was returned centuries later. Only in 2003 year, a delegation from the hometown of Baron Munchausen came to Kaliningrad. They went to the memorable places of him and they have brought silver thalers for his beer. Since that time the silver coins are kept in the restaurant “Solnechny Kamen” which is located in the Rossgarten Gate. In 18 century the Rossgarten Gate was built from wood. Only in the 19th century, it was turned in brick.
