Peter and Paul Cathedral is an architectural monument and one of the spiritual symbols of Kazan. It was built on a higher side of the city, the beautiful and majestic cathedral is famous for its beauty and unique decorations.
The Cathedral was built in 1726 year by the order of Peter the Great. The legend says that Peter I himself took a part in the construction of the Cathedral.
The Cathedral became a vivid example of the Russian or so-called Naryshkin baroque. The beauty of its decoration and architectural style amazes. There is an abundance of ornamental details of the facade and exquisite colors, preserved from the 18th century. All details are unique and do not repeat in any other architectural monument.
Among the main icons of the Peter and Paul Cathedral is the miraculous Seven Lake Icon of the Mother of God. Currently, the Cathedral is one of the centers of spiritual life in the Kazan region.
