🇨🇳 China Trade Growth Accelerates
China’s customs authority reported that China’s total imports and exports reached 4.66 trillion yuan in July, up 19.2% year on year. Exports rose 17.8% to 2.71 trillion yuan, while imports increased faster at 21.2% to 1.95 trillion yuan.
In the first seven months of 2026, total goods trade rose 17.3% to 30.13 trillion yuan, with exports up 14% and imports up 22%, leaving import growth eight percentage points ahead. Export growth was concentrated in high-tech products and electromechanical goods, while imports of electromechanical products and metal ores also expanded; trade with ASEAN, the EU, Latin America, Africa, Belt and Road partners, and other APEC economies all increased.
The data points to continued reliance on external demand as domestic consumption and investment remain weak. The report also notes rising uncertainty from Middle East conflict and the risk of broader trade friction and protectionism.
