🇨🇾 Cyprus has moved another step closer to joining Schengen.
According to ANT1 Livei, the European Commission has completed its technical assessment and confirmed that Cyprus is technically ready to join the Schengen Area. Some issues remain, but they are already in the process of being resolved.
However, Cyprus is not yet part of Schengen: border controls with other countries in the area remain in place, and the final decision must be approved by the Schengen countries.
After accession, border controls between Cyprus and other Schengen countries will be abolished, and common Schengen rules will come into force on the island.
