A story about how scammers graze on the social media pages of various airlines. For more than a month, I tried to get a refund from Flyone (Moldova) for a cancelled flight. The company ignored every possible way of contacting them with admirable persistence. Today, without any particular illusions left, I left a comment under a post on their Instagram page. And literally ten minutes later, I get a WhatsApp call from a number in Kenya. I had no desire to answer unknown numbers from Kenya, and I also wanted a written record of the conversation. I asked them to send a message. “We are from the Flyone_eu service. Describe your situation”, - the message says. I ask, with curiosity: why is the support service of a Moldovan airline calling me from Kenya? The answer - with absolute confidence in their own story: the person is on a business trip, and simply connected to the systems in Chișinău. - Fine, - I think, - let’s watch this performance unfold. I state my request again: to refund the money for the cancelled flight. In response - apologies, understanding, sympathy and even generous hints at additional compensation for the long wait. It all looks touching. But first, of course, I need to fill in a refund form. - Fine, send it over, - I say. They send a Google form with a proud promise of a refund of almost £5 000. Even though Flyone owes around 90€. The form has all the classics of the genre: card number, expiry date and the three digits on the back. - What unexpected generosity, - I thought, and entered the details... of a bank card that does not exist, and in the contact details I put the phone number of the Cyprus cybercrime police 😄 Take care of yourselves and be careful.
