A swarm of jellyfish has managed to disrupt Western Europe’s largest nuclear power plant - again. Three reactors at France’s Gravelines station were shut down after jellyfish clogged cooling-water pumps, while output from a fourth was cut by half, leaving only one of the plant’s six reactors operating at full power as another was already offline for maintenance. EDF says there was no risk to workers, the public or the environment, but the incident comes exactly a year after jellyfish temporarily knocked the entire plant offline. France’s nuclear fleet has already been squeezed by heat and drought this summer; apparently, the sea has now joined the list of complications.
