France’s Mediterranean island of Corsica is seeing a sharp rise in ferry travel, with passenger numbers climbing 14.4% year-on-year to 363,400 and tourist vehicles up 13.5% to 141,700. Corsica Ferries carried about two-thirds of all passengers, while Bastia remained the island’s busiest port with 186,000 travellers. Routes connecting Corsica with mainland France accounted for 65% of passenger traffic, compared with 35% for Italy. For an island, the sea remains very much a highway.
