Drivers heading between France and Spain could soon face AI cameras that spot dangerous behavior instead of speeding. During a pilot program on the A-2 and AP-7-a major route linking the French border with Barcelona-the system detected more than 8,500 drivers using mobile phones and over 4,500 seat belt violations, with an accuracy rate above 84%. No fines were issued during the trial, but Catalan authorities are considering introducing the technology as part of their 2027–2030 road safety strategy. Sometimes the biggest surprise on a road trip isn't traffic-it's finding out the cameras are watching for far more than speed.
