France is raising the bar for people applying for citizenship with a much larger official study guide. The new Livret du Citoyen has grown from 28 to 83 pages, placing greater emphasis on republican values, secularism, citizens' rights and responsibilities, and everyday life in France. The handbook is designed to help applicants prepare for the country's new mandatory citizenship test, introduced earlier this year. Becoming French now means learning a lot more than just the language.
