France is racing to put children before algorithms. Lawmakers are pushing to approve a bill that would ban social media for anyone under 15 before the new school year, with President Emmanuel Macron backing the measure as a key priority despite ongoing debate over which platforms should be covered. The proposal comes as health experts warn about the impact of excessive social media use on young people, while the European Commission has raised legal concerns that parts of the bill may conflict with EU digital rules. For France, the question is no longer whether children need stronger online protection-it's how far the country is willing to go to provide it.
