"The first would be: don't confuse simplicity with carelessness. You can have a very simple portfolio that is very efficient and not just have two funds lying around. Second, time in the market beats timing the market." He referenced the Dalbar study showing that even when investors were right more than 50% of the time on timing, the volume of losses on the wrong calls outweighed the gains. "And the last thing I would say is, 'cost matters, but function matters more. That is, understanding what function the assets in your portfolio fulfill is paramount. And from there, you can determine what may have more or less cost and what may suit you better, but it's function first and then cost." On navigating drawdowns, Pedro added a practical lens: "Ultimately, market drops are just volatility. As long as you don't sell and realize that loss, it's just volatility." Has there been any change in any characteristic of this investment that might make me consider selling?
