In an interview with Oninvest, Oleksandr Buiukli, Head of Freedom24 Bulgaria, which operates as a tied agent of Freedom Finance Europe Ltd., shared his perspective on how the country’s transition to the euro is influencing investor sentiment and market dynamics. The topic is particularly relevant as Bulgaria’s euro adoption has become one of the key drivers of local stock market growth in early 2026, exposing the broader economic implications of deeper integration into the European financial system. In January, following the switch from the lev to the euro, the number of new foreign investors on the exchange increased by 64% year on year, while the Bulgarian Stock Exchange’s main index, SOFIX, rose by almost 7%. Discussing the structural nature of this shift, he noted that “Bulgaria’s adoption of the euro represents a fundamental shift in its economic logic.” He explained that the transition is not about short-term stimulus but about building a stronger institutional framework that supports long-term investment decisions. According to Buiukli, the single currency removes exchange rate risk and improves access to financing, while also increasing the importance of structural reforms for sustainable growth.
