Some of Ireland's forgotten history is opening its gates again. Dublin's 18th-century Magazine Fort in Phoenix Park has reopened to visitors after more than two years of restoration, with experts stabilising over 430 metres of original walls, rebuilding the long-lost Dorset Gate and restoring key military structures using traditional conservation techniques. The fort, originally built between 1734 and 1736 as a secure gunpowder store and later linked to the 1916 Easter Rising, can now be explored on guided tours as work continues in future phases. Sometimes the best way to protect the past is to let people walk through it again.
