Ireland is making littering a more expensive habit. From September 1, on-the-spot fines for littering will rise from €150 to €250, while the government is also creating a €250,000 fund to help local councils keep parks, beaches and other public spaces cleaner. Part of the funding will go toward more dog waste bins and bag dispensers, making it easier for pet owners to do the right thing. The tougher penalties come as Ireland reports improving litter levels-proof that keeping a country clean takes both investment and accountability.
