Shrovetide or Maslenitsa is an ancient traditional celebration of the meeting of spring ☀️ Sometimes Mslenitsa is attributed to church holidays. Of course, on the one hand, there are many pagan customs in it. But on the other hand, it is tied to the church calendar. The date of the holiday changes from year to year. This is due to the peculiarities of the main church holiday – Easter. Easter is celebrated every year on a different date. This year it falls on May 2. Lent begins 47 days in advance, March 14, the last day of Maslenitsa. The main dish for Shrovetide is pancakes. According to custom, pancake means the sun. On Shrovetide in schools and kindergartens, they play different games, dress up in Russian folk costumes and celebrate at a feast. Students can bring pancakes to the school or toppings. There are many toppings you can use for pancakes: jam, honey, smetana (sour cream), or caviar. At the end of the day, citizens burn the strew doll at the stake and said goodbye to winter.
