PLEASE SHARE!! GET READY, LOUISIANA! Arthur is coming. Now, want to be very clear — this is not going to be a hurricane. It’s going to be a messy looking tropical storm with all of the bad weather east of the center when it makes landfall tomorrow night. Flooding rain is going to be the big story with Arthur. It will be an impactful and memorable storm for those of you that get stuck under training tropical rain bands on Wednesday night into Thursday. Once it’s all said and done somebody between Lafayette & New Orleans is going to crushed with 10-20 inches of rain. It’s impossible to know who will be the bullseye until it happens, so I urge you to constantly check the weather heading into tomorrow night. The gradient will be very tight. One parish will see a major flood and the next parish over will see only a few drops of rain. That’s how this will go. But this will be a flood for somebody. For those of you that get stuck east of the center, Arthur’s rain bands will also produce strong tropical storm force wind gusts of 40-60 MPH. That can cause sporadic power outages, knock down trees/branches, and cause coastal flooding. Additionally, isolated tornadoes will be possible along and east of where the center tracks. Beyond Louisiana, the heavy rain & flood threat will spread into Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, FL Panhandle, and the Carolinas on Thursday into Friday. Arthur could bring strong winds to these areas as well. However, I don’t see much of a heavy rain threat west of the Texas/Louisiana border at this time. Be safe y’all. I’ll be posting frequent updates tomorrow. ⤵️⤵️⤵️

It’s going to be a long week. Named storm or not, an unnamed tropical disturbance and a stationary front will bring a multi-day heavy rain and flash flood threat. The Weather Prediction Center has UPGRADED the flash flood risk to Moderate(Level 3 out of 4) for multiple days this week. Please do not drive through flooded roadways. Hot spots of over a FOOT of rain possible within the next 5 days. The unknown? Exactly where the heaviest bands of rain will materialize. Stay tuned.

The National Hurricane Center has increased the chances for development of a weak depression or storm offshore Galveston/Cameron later this week. The first name on the list is Arthur. See my earlier post for detailed information on this potential.

⚠️🌧️ Tropical moisture will increase the risk for flash flooding on Monday-Thursday for areas along & north of the I-10/12 corridor. While most areas along & north of I-10/12 are likely to see 3-6", localized areas could see totals upwards of 10". 👉 Stay tuned to the forecast and be prepared in case of street flood or rises to local creeks/rivers in your area this week.

NEXT WEEK - I’ll be paying attention to a Gulf disturbance and a front with the two likely combining over us yielding a multi-day heavy rain risk. Tuesday through Thursday seem like the highest impact days. There is some potential for a weak spin up depression developing along this front but the story remains…RAIN. It’s too early to get into bold specifics on rainfall totals but some areas could easily exceed 6”.
