In the last century, London had a separate underground network dedicated exclusively to transporting post
As early as the 1920s, the streets of the British capital were so congested that the authorities decided to transport letters and parcels underground. The 10.5 km of track connected the eight largest sorting centres, and was served by mini-trains – which were already driverless at the time – controlled by dispatchers from a control panel.
Due to logistical issues and high maintenance costs, the underground system was shut down in 2003, and some of the tunnels are now tourist attractions.
