So, on Migingo Island, 500 people live in an area half the size of a football pitch
The place is situated on the border between Kenya and Uganda, and territorial disputes over it once even nearly led to war. Most of the population are fishermen, and as well as shacks, the streets are home to shops, bars and a church.
The craziest thing you need to know: there’s an island nearby that’s several times larger, but the locals didn’t want to move there – they were afraid of the ‘evil spirits’ said to inhabit it. Now, a Kenyan coastguard post stands there.
