Bloomberg TV featured Dzmitry Marchanka, Sales Manager at Freedom24 Bulgaria Tied agent of FFEU, on its Business Start program to discuss how the country’s economic reality compares with public expectations, two months after Bulgaria’s official accession to the eurozone. While consumers remain sensitive to rising food and transport costs, the data shows a different overall picture, with inflation slowing and capital market activity accelerating.
According to Freedom24’s analysis, inflation declined from around 5 percent in December to 3.45 percent at the beginning of the year. As Marchanka noted, "Most people can see growth in certain sectors such as food and transport, and therefore think that inflation is rising... But in reality, we see that it is simply falling." At the same time, the elimination of currency risk has strengthened investor confidence. The SOFIX index rose by 19.39 percent from January 1 to the end of February, significantly above initial expectations. 📈
Despite domestic stability, Marchanka also highlighted external risks linked to geopolitical tensions and energy markets. Addressing the conflict in the Middle East, he stated: "The longer the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked, the more oil prices will rise... Tankers are stuck and cannot move, no one can leave. If the conflict continues, oil prices may rise even further." He added that the surge in natural gas prices in Europe and uncertainty around the ECB’s future interest rate policy remain key factors to watch in the months ahead.
