This week the Senate released eleven text messages from Dr. Anthony Fauci's government phone. The device holds more than 34,000 — plus 522 voicemails no one has yet examined.
I've published an open letter to Chairmen Ron Johnson and Rand Paul specifying the seven searches I believe their staff should run: precise numbers, date windows, and keywords tied to what the released messages already establish — including a January 2021 exchange in which the incoming administration's health leadership privately described the evidence base for vaccinating pregnant women as "a data free" zone, days before public assurances of "no red flags."
A disclosure, because it belongs upfront: I was one of the twelve people named by the 2021 federal misinformation campaign, and a federal appeals court later found the resulting removals occurred "despite earlier representations that those users were not in violation of their policies." That history is my interest. It is not my argument.
The argument is narrower, and it's one I believe professionals on every side of this debate can share: oversight should proceed by search terms, custodians, and complete publication — favorable or not — rather than by curated excerpts from anyone's side. The letter also asks that contested statistics be kept out of it entirely. The documents are enough.
