Euro near two‑month highs — markets expect an ECB rate hike
The euro approached $1.15 after strong eurozone economic data. Eurozone GDP in Q2 rose 0.4% q/q, EU — 0.5%. Yearly growth — 1.0% and 1.2% respectively.
Eurozone inflation in July — 2.9%; one‑year inflation expectations ~2.4% (above the ECB target).
With steady growth and Middle East geopolitical risk, the market sees a 25 bp ECB hike in September as likely. Deposit rate now 2.25%.
Gold hit a two‑month peak
Spot gold reached around $2,450/oz after US CPI data: annual CPI in July +3.4% y/y, core CPI 2.5% — slightly below forecasts.
Fed‑tightening expectations eased (probability of a September hike fell to ~40% per CME FedWatch), supporting gold demand.
Geopolitics also supports demand: tension between the US and Iran increases interest in safe havens.
Asian markets: capital outflow ninth month running
In July foreign funds withdrew $25.48bn from seven Asian markets. Most went from Taiwan — $22.95bn; South Korea lost $6.26bn.
Investors are selling tech and semiconductor stocks amid doubts about outsized chip‑demand growth and corporate debt risks.
Taiwan’s TAIEX had a sharp drop; TSMC fell over 7%. Korea saw a Kospi correction after the June peak.
Google unveiled Pixel 11, Pixel Watch 5 and Pixel Tag
Pixel 11 lineup: Pixel 11 / 11 Pro / 11 Pro XL / Pro Fold on the new Tensor G6 (promised +20% battery saving, +25% web load speed).
