Ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza, Mexico🇲🇽
On the northern tip of the Yucatan, where the hot Mexican sun pierces through the emerald jungle, the ancient city of Chichen Itza stands frozen in time. This is one of the greatest monuments of the Maya civilization, where each structure is a page of a stone textbook on astronomy, mathematics, and sacred architecture.
The main marvel is the nine-tiered pyramid of Kukulkan, where during the equinoxes, the shadow of the steps transforms into a 37-meter "feathered serpent" slithering down to the base. Nearby, the Temple of Warriors stands tall with a forest of carved columns, and the giant ball court with its unique acoustics (where whispers on one side can be heard clearly on the opposite side) reminds us of the ritual games where the winner was honored by being sacrificed.
Did you know? The pyramid of Kukulkan is also known as El Castillo, and its 365 steps represent the days of the solar year.
