It turns out winning hearts in Europe takes a lot more than planting pretty flowers. Two Irish villages, Blackrock and Riverstown, are putting the finishing touches on their entries for the Entente Florale competition, where judges will assess everything from biodiversity and climate action to community involvement and sustainable planning. Volunteers have spent months restoring walking trails, creating greener public spaces, improving habitats for wildlife, and showcasing local heritage in the hope of bringing home one of Europe’s most respected environmental awards. In the end, the contest isn’t really about who has the brightest blooms-it’s about proving that small communities can make a big difference when people work together.
