Ireland’s debate over children and social media is becoming less about age limits and more about who should really be held responsible. Opposition politicians argue that banning under-16s from social platforms would be difficult to enforce and risks distracting from what they see as the bigger issue-how powerful algorithms spread harmful content and misinformation. The government says age restrictions are still being considered alongside the EU and points out that rules are worth having even if some people try to bypass them. The real challenge, it seems, isn’t simply keeping children off social media, but making the platforms themselves safer for everyone.
