New Jerusalem Monastery is the most beautiful monastery in the Moscow region
In the small country town Istra you can find the men’s monastery. The monastery was in the 17th century by the order of patriarch Nikon. The place reminds me of one of the most famous monasteries in the world that are placed in Jerusalem where Jesus Christ was praying before his crucifixion.
Inside everything tells about the way of Christ. Therefore, inside the temple, there is a chapel in which the Holy Sepulcher is located. It is a copy as a symbol of that very holy place. At the entrance, there is a stone, similar to the one from which the Angel pointed to the burial place of Christ, near it they usually kneel and pray.
Around the temple in a circle, there are all the stages of Jesus' last days. These are the so-called temples of the Sorrowful Way. There is a dungeon temple where Jesus spent the night before his execution. Above there is Golgotha, the cross for which was brought rom Jerusalem by order of patriarch Nikon.
