Sbiten – Russian traditional drink that will keep you warm during the winter
Sbiten was very popular in Russia in the 18th – 19th centuries. However, it was crowded out from wealthy houses by tea, but for the populace it remained the favorite drink.
After the 1917 revolution, sbiten almost fell out of use. And only in the 90s of 20th century sbiten started becoming a mass drink again.
Ingredients:
water – 250 ml.
sugar – 10 g
cloves – 2 g.
allspice – 2 g.
cardamom – 2 g.
ginger root – 10 g.
honey – 1 tbsp.
cinnamon – 2 sticks
How to make it:
Pour water into a saucepan and bring to a boil
When it boils, add sugar, cloves, allspice, cardamom and grated ginger.
Boil over low heat for 7-10 minutes, covering with a cover.
Add honey and remove from heat. Serve with sticks of cinnamon.
Enjoy your hot drink!
