Agent Plugins 1.0.0 is live
Today, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and OpenAI confirmed backing for Agent Plugins 1.0.0. This new vendor-neutral standard finally lets you package Agent Skills and MCP servers into single portable units without custom wrappers.
If you've been building agentic flows, you know the headache of maintaining client-specific metadata and discovery paths. This spec cuts the cruft by enforcing a standard plugin.json manifest and a fixed directory structure. The system validates components independently, so one broken part won't kill the whole plugin.
Clients like ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Codex, Kiro, and VS Code already support this out of the gate. Previously, you had to repackage the same Skill or MCP server for every single client environment to satisfy different discovery logic. This move replaces that fragmented approach with a predictable, minimal contract that keeps individual client capabilities untouched.
