What’s the right way to approach the salary expectations question when relocating?
Trying to negotiate a US salary in Lisbon or anchoring to your current salary without adjusting for the cost of living can easily backfire.
First and foremost, adjust your expectations to the local market. Look at what people earn there and what things actually cost. Otherwise, you risk either lowballing yourself or pricing yourself out of the market.
The salary expectations question can come up:
- in the application form
- during a call with a recruiter
- in the final interview stages
