🇭🇰🇨🇳 Hong Kong Draws SOE Treasury Hubs
Chinese state-owned enterprises are increasingly choosing Hong Kong to consolidate overseas accounts through treasury centres, with the city favored for its international banking system, deep capital markets, large offshore yuan pool and links to the mainland, according to a South China Morning Post report. The shift reflects a broader use of the city as a base for managing cross-border cash and financing operations.
The move aligns with Beijing’s push to reinforce Hong Kong’s role as a financial gateway for Chinese firms operating abroad. For SOEs, treasury hubs in the city offer access to offshore renminbi liquidity and global financial infrastructure while remaining closely connected to mainland regulatory and corporate networks.
Further concentration of treasury operations in Hong Kong would support the city’s position in offshore yuan business and corporate funding flows. It also deepens its function as a financial interface between China and external markets.
