This video is part of online series: Remembering Julian Bream. The New York Guitar Festival invited some of our favorite artists to reflect on the life and musical legacy of the Grammy Award-winning classical guitarist and lutenist Julian Bream. On the video William Kanengiser performs 5 Impromptus by English composer Richard Rodney Bennet. This piece was composed in 1968 and dedicated to Julian Bream. The Impromptus grew out of a request by Julian Bream for a guitar concerto. Bennett, having never written for the guitar before, did not feel comfortable beginning with a large, multi- movement work. He began the Impromptus as an exercise to teach himself how to write well for the instrument. On writing for the guitar Bennett has said: «There was no way I was going to write a concerto for Julian right off, because I didn’t know enough about how the guitar worked...[The Impromptus] were a little exercise towards writing a concerto. I tried out various technical things – with different colors of the guitar, what happens when you tune a string down, harmonics» Enjoy! Ссылка скрыта

"In this unprecedentedly hard time I want to support my country as much as I can, so, undoubtedly, this recording is dedicated to Ukraine. Konstantin Bliokh is a composer from Kharkiv, a Ukrainian city (and first capital) that is sustaining extremely heavy ruination during the invasion. I'm thankful to Konstantin for his trust in performing this wonderful cycle, and my hopes are that this will be heard by as many as there could be - the music deserves it. Recorded on the 10th of February. Guitar made by a German luthier Felix Müller - thank you Felix! Huge thanks to Lorenzo Bernardi who made it all work, to his team and to my mom Nataliia Topchii who added a final touch to the video. To Felix Justen for the Guitarlift and to D'Addario and Co. for the strings I've been playing through the decade. And most definitely a huge gratitude to ALL who are showing support and compassion to all of Ukraine that's faced such an atrocity in the XXI." MARKO TOPCHII 💛💙💛💙💛💙💛💙💛💙💛💙 Ссылка скрыта
