[7/21 11:30am] Showers/storms will likely begin to pop up this afternoon especially along/west of the I-55 corridor. A few storms in SW areas could be strong/severe as we get into the evening hours and will be mainly capable of locally heavy rain and gusty winds. Small hail and a brief tornado or two cannot be ruled out though they would be less likely compared to damaging wind gusts/locally heavy rain. Stay weather aware especially if you're going to be out and about this afternoon!

10 A.M. UPDATE: Air Force Hurricane Hunters found Tropical Storm Bertha has strengthened, with maximum sustained winds now at 60 mph. Bertha remains about 70 miles south-southwest of Panama City, Florida, and 145 miles southeast of Mobile, Alabama, as it moves slowly along the northern Gulf Coast. Bertha is forecast to make landfall near the mouth of the Mississippi River Wednesday afternoon. Tropical storm-force gusts are most likely near the immediate coast, with weaker winds farther inland. The heaviest rain may stay near the coast or offshore, meaning much of Wednesday could remain sunny and breezy away from coastal areas.

Hurricane Hunters earlier this evening found tropical storm force winds in the convective burst on the southern end of the system, thus we have Bertha. Most hurricane guidance pretty much locking on on an Eastern LA landfall Wednesday as a weak to mid-range tropical storm in the 50 mph range in any convection. This reaches the Acadiana coastal parishes as a weakening/sheared system with all the big storms staying offshore Thursday...scattered showers and a few storms possible inland for our area Wednesday-Saturday... We should have a (HOT) breeze in the 10-15 mph range with some gusts 25 mph Wednesday into Thursday. No flood threat no wind damage concerns...coastal areas will be breezier however but gusts probably less than 40 mph...so take care of any coastal/marine concerns just in case. #lawx #Bertha

STORM WATCH - all indications are some tropical development will occur over the northern Gulf within the next 48 hours. A tropical depression or tropical storm is likely to form. The next name on the list is Bertha. A lot still is yet to be determined. Remember Arthur? The storm went in to Texas but we took the brunt of the weather in Louisiana. This storm will be different in many ways which is why exact track and intensity will be key. The shear and dry air over the Gulf should keep things in check so only a weaker storm is possible. All residents from Louisiana to the Panhandle of Florida(including vacationers) should monitor the latest developments on this system.
