It’s about ensuring farmers know how to qualify, what’s required, and how to manage credit responsibly from application to repayment. On Day 2 of Lersha’s Super Agent Workshop, Dashen Bank, one of our key partners, guided Super Agents through the full journey of agricultural finance — eligibility, KYC, documentation, loan application, approval, disbursement, utilization, and repayment. For Super Agents, this knowledge is vital. They are the first point of contact for farmers, helping them prepare information, understand the process, and stay connected throughout the cycle. The session also gave them space to share field experiences, ask practical questions, and strengthen coordination with the bank. Super Agents in Action. Digital Tools, Real Impact. Day 2 of Lersha's Super Agent Capacity Building Workshop started with our Super Agents doing what they do best: learning, engaging, and putting digital tools into practice. The morning focused on a practical refresher on the Lersha digital platform, taking Super Agents through the latest application updates, farmer profiling, KYC verification, and the tools they use every day to serve farmers more effectively. With phones in hand, Super Agents explored new updates, refreshed their skills, shared experiences from the field, asked questions, and worked through practical exercises together with the technical team. As our platform continues to evolve, keeping our Super Agents confident and up to date is essential. They are the connection between our technology and the farmers, pastoralists, and agro pastoralists we serve across Ethiopia. Stronger digital skills. Better farmer service. What happens when the local businesses supplying our farmers can’t access bank loans? The shortage travels down the chain—and farmers can’t plant on time. Smallholder farmers produce 80% of Ethiopia’s food, yet under 10% access formal credit. The main bottleneck is that agro‑dealers trade mostly in cash, leaving no digital records to prove creditworthiness. To solve this, partners met at Radisson Blu Hotel, Addis Ababa, to launch the AIRADE Agro‑Dealer Financing initiative. Driven by Lersha, Dashen Bank, the Ministry of Agriculture, ATI, UNCDF, Gates Foundation, and Cognize Technologies, the consortium introduces an in‑kind loan model. Lersha digitizes dealer inventory to generate credit scores, enabling Dashen Bank to pay wholesalers directly for farm inputs. Dealers then supply farmers and repay loans from sales. The project targets 108 digitized agro‑dealers, mobilize commercial lending fir ago dealers, and 54,000+ farmers reached across 36 woredas in Oromia, Sidama, Amhara, and Central Ethiopia.

From youth voices to shared action. Building on the youth-led conversations of Day 1, the second day shifted the focus from priorities to action and shared commitment. Youth presented their Communiqué to ecosystem leaders, followed by a cross-sector panel and partnership commitments, culminating in the official inception of YEFFA Ethiopia. International Youth Day was more than a celebration. It was a moment to turn youth voices into action. On August 11–12, the YEFFA Ethiopia Youth Convening and Inception Meeting brought together young people and key ecosystem actors with a shared ambition: to advance youth entrepreneurship, employment, and food systems transformation in Ethiopia. Day 1 of the YEFFA Ethiopia Youth Convening put young people at the center of shaping the future of Ethiopia’s food systems. Through interactive discussions on agribusiness, access to finance and markets, technology, and inclusion, young participants shared their experiences, challenged existing barriers, and co-created a Youth Communiqué reflecting their priorities and aspirations.
